is it possible that they said that the movie is based on true events just to get publicity? Because i can't find anything anywhere about what it's based on, besides possibly the Manson murders. what are your thoughts?

I don't think this movie is based on just /one/ event. I was also interested in the "true events" of the movie and did some research. I think that the writers took several true stories (ie- the manson murders, jeffory mcdonald murders) and perhaps some others and put details from those into the movie.
